There was considerable development
in this Project during the year. On

Workshop beneficiaries also took advantage
of this service as required and even,
on occasion, relatives of the patients
who are given accommodation. |

(HHEP) :- |

It became increasingly evident
that in order to achieve the best possible
results of rehabilitation. Many of the
patients needed daily and intensive
treatment. Commuting daily was not possible
for them due to the nature of their
disability, their financial situation
and the distances involved. Several
of the paraplegia patients referred
were from outside Mumbai and even from
other States. Accomodation was, therefore,
offered to such patients
By the end of 31/3/04 a total number
of 31 patients had been provided accommodation
help in order to receive intensive treatment.
Of these,2 patients had been brought
forward from the previous year and a
total of 16 patients were still being
accommodated at the end of March 2004. |

From August to October
2003, two nursing staff of LTMG Hospital
regularly came to help us for the same
purpose during their spare time.
Apart from giving individual service,
the Social Worker, held weekly group
meetings with the paraplegia patients
and their relatives. Such meetings provide
an opportunity to the patients and the
relatives to share their feelings and
problems with the group and gain support
and confidence from each other. The
Social Worker also arranged donations
for those patients who had difficulty
contributing towards their stay and
for aids & appliances required by
them. In addition, monthly rations of
essential items were arranged through
a kind donor for the families of 4 patients
in dire need.
Apart from a part –
time staff, Physiotherapist, through

from the LTMG, K.E.M & B.Y.L. Nair
Hospitals also offered their voluntary

daily given barley water to prevent urine
